Basic knots · Lesson 04 of 18
Vajra Knot
Build a dense repeated cord section by carrying each end through the open loops in turn. Work loosely enough to place the next pass, then close each unit before continuing.

Follow the cord, step by step.
Each image comes from this demonstration. Tap its time to replay the movement.

01. Keep a small upper loop
Pinch the folded cord below its small upper loop. Separate the two working ends.

02. Prepare the first open wrap
Curve a working end around the other cord. Hold the paired openings without pulling them shut.

03. Bring the end through the opening
Return the raised cord end through the opening beside your thumb. Keep the loose arrangement in place.

04. Close the linked passes
Draw the threaded end clear. Begin reducing the loose loops while holding the knot centre.

05. Set the first compact unit
Pull the ends gently and ease the cord around the centre until the first unit is compact.

06. Pass through the next loop
Make another working loop beside the knot, then feed the remaining end through the opening shown.

07. Continue the same orientation
Open the next loop beside the growing row. Repeat the same transfer and tightening sequence.

08. Even out the finished row
Smooth the short row between your fingers. Ease the knots together and compare the dense surface on both sides.
Before you move on
- The units sit closely together without large gaps.
- The upper loop remains separate from the repeated knot section.
- The row has a consistent dense texture.
