  1. Step 1: Hold the folded cord — 十字结

    01. Hold the folded cord

Pinch the two strands below the fold. Keep a generous loop above your fingers.

  2. Step 2: Make a small crossing below the fold — 十字结

    02. Make a small crossing below the fold

Curve one end across the two strands to form a small opening at the base of the upper loop.

  3. Step 3: Return the end through the small opening — 十字结

    03. Return the end through the small opening

Bring the loose end through the opening held by your fingers. Keep the upper loop separate.

  4. Step 4: Tighten the first cross — 十字结

    04. Tighten the first cross

Pull the ends and settle the compact crossing directly beneath the upper loop.

  5. Step 5: Start a second knot lower down — 十字结

    05. Start a second knot lower down

Leave a short open length beneath the first knot. Repeat the small loop and return pass on the hanging strands.

  6. Step 6: Keep the middle section open — 十字结

    06. Keep the middle section open

Close the second cross while retaining the open doubled-cord section between the two knots.

  7. Step 7: Adjust the spacing — 十字结

    07. Adjust the spacing

Ease slack through the cord in small amounts. Set the upper loop and the gap between the knots to the size you want.

  8. Step 8: Check the two small crosses — 十字结

    08. Check the two small crosses

Hold up the completed sample. Compare the two compact knots and straighten the doubled section between them.

Before you move on

  • The small knot shows a compact cross-like face.
  • The upper loop and the middle open section remain distinct.
  • The two repeated knots sit neatly on the doubled cord.
